Impressive Mod Breathes New Life Into Halo: Combat Evolved on PC
Halo‘s strong following is continuing to keep the legend alive with new mods that significantly improve upon Combat Evolved’s original launch on PC launch back in 2003.
A new mod called from the “Custom Map Team” called SPV3 that was recently brought to our attention takes things to an impressive new level with substantial upgrades to Combat Evolved’s visuals and gameplay.
In addition to a complete visual overhaul, new environments, extended levels, and new features, the mod also introduces some of the vehicles, weapons, new enemies, abilities from some of the more recent Halo releases, turning it into a sort of “best of” mod, if you will.
SPV3 launches in increments with its next release this November. The entirety of the mod should be out by Christmas of this year. Be sure to check out the release date trailer above to see it in action and follow along with the development process over on Halomods.com.
Halo: Combat Evolved is getting yet another official re-release from developer 343 Industries in Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, due out this November 11.
Watch The Last of Us: One Night Live-performance Monday, July 28
I love great video game stories. Today, the narrative potential of our medium has never been greater. The best video games blend world-class acting, writing, music and gameplay to create art that rivals the best works in other entertainment mediums.
To celebrate that point, I’m excited to announce an experimental project I’ve been working on with Naughty Dog and PlayStation.
On Monday July 28th, one of last year’s most acclaimed games, The Last of Us, will come to the theatrical stage in Los Angeles for a special one-night-only performance.
One Night Live will highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us with a live reading of select scenes by the principal actors, under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog. Scheduled to appear are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. In addition, Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform selections from his score. How this all fits together will remain a bit of a mystery until it happens, but trust me when I say it will be a very special evening.
This one-time-only performance will be staged at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Monday, July 28 at 7 PM PT. PlayStation fans who will be in the area that evening can secure free tickets to attend the performance in person. Check the PlayStation Facebook page for details on how to register.
If you can’t join us in Santa Monica, select portions of the program will be streamed live around the world on Twitch, YouTube and PlayStation Network’s Live Event Viewer. And while it goes without saying, the event will include some story spoilers.
I hope you’ll join us on July 28th to celebrate The Last of Us and the creativity of the people behind it.

The Art of Bioshock
Bioshock offers an unusual setting. A titanic city holed up at the bottom of the sea sheltering ideologies of a megalomaniac and human dementia. Opting for an Art-Deco architecture, the city of Rapture is, in itself, a work-of-art. This visual spectacle is nonetheless tinged by drug addicts with distorted faces, towering creatures protected by metal armor and mad scientists. Bioshock is a unique game which must be discovered by all art lovers.

Woofle - The Redhood Diaries
A non-sugarcoated fairy tale platformer, full of drama and dark twists…
In this fantasy / steampunk setting - with dangerous smoke-spewing factories, a charming medieval village and nature manipulated by evil - we follow the journey of a fearless Little Red Riding Hood. The well-known voyage to her grandmother’s house is only a fraction of this immersive visual adventure.
"Many years ago, Joseph, a young and ambitious engineer, fell in love with a girl.
They got married and moved in with Joseph’s mother, in her small cabin in the woods. One day, Joseph’s wife went for a walk in the forest and never came back - leaving both Joseph and his mother heartbroken.
After the mysterious disappearance, Joseph seeks comfort in his work. His mother seeks for answers in the forest. Years later, she finds a scared little girl in the woods. The resemblance between the red-caped toddler and her dead-pronounced daughter-in-law is striking. She takes the girl back to her place and gives her a meal and a bath. While helping the toddler out of her dirty ripped clothes, she finds a locket carrying the picture of Joseph’s wife, which confirms her initial instinct: this must be her granddaughter. Red Riding Hood is given her name and a loving home, where she grows up rather carefree until fate strikes once again.
When the girl is 14 years old, Joseph gets killed in an accident at the factory - or so, his family is told. Once grown up, Red Riding Hood heads towards the city, to avenge her beloved father’s death and hunt down the one she holds responsible: B.B. Woolfe, CEO of Woolfe industries.”
